Balenciaga now makes pet accessories

RUFF LIFE: If you have a designer pet with character, Balenciaga has the dog bowl for you.

Stainless steel and surrounded by large, menacing spikes, the dish is part of a new Balenciaga Objects line releasing November 21, just in time for holiday gift giving.

You can feel creative director Demna’s wry humor in the airplane neck pillow with an attached black hood, and the Balenciaga coasters, branded to look like a famous pilsner-style Belgian lager.

The Paris-based house will showcase dozens of products, mostly for the home, in a campaign called Balenciaga Gift Shop. These range from a wacky bench made up of dozens of printed napkins tied together like a bundle of newspapers to wine and champagne glasses emblazoned with beer-like Balenciaga logos.

Several objects, including doormats, bath mats, a teapot and tableware, bear Balenciaga Hotel & Resorts artwork. The dishes are made by Ginori 1735, which, like Balenciaga, is owned by the French fashion group Kering.

Dozens of luxury brands have recently jumped into the booming pet accessories business, with Balenciaga offering a yellow harness, collar and leash resembling a tailor’s measuring tape. A plush pink dog bed with matching blanket is reminiscent of Bruiser Woods from the “Legally Blonde” movies.

Soap, lunch boxes, vases, pillows, sippy cups and a sculpture of gold-plated Triple S sneakers complete the eclectic range.

According to the house, some Balenciaga stores will offer a personalized gift wrapping service for these gift items with silver ribbons and pearlescent packaging.
