Miami, Florida, United States, September 27, 2022 – Tesla Shields co-founders Jason and Sebastien worked together to lease real estate before they began making custom accessories for Tesla electric vehicles. But when state laws changed, the couple had to find another way to stay in business.
Coupled with interest in Elon Musk’s accomplishments in the electric vehicle market, it wasn’t too difficult for the couple to jump into creating custom Tesla accessories when Jason noticed an opening in the market. The duo decided to try their luck. Model 3 owners have complained that the door sill is too easy to scratch. Sebastian and Jason designed a sheet of vinyl-cut paint protection film to fit the area, and Tesla Shields were created.
The couple self-funded their first product and began producing all-in-one Tesla sill guard kits from a relative’s garage. Strong sales and stable production made the initial outlook bright. Unfortunately, an equipment malfunction forced Sebastien and Jason to look in another direction when their machinery couldn’t deliver consistent quality cut vinyl in a timely manner.
Back to the drawing board, the pair turned to complaints about aftermarket floor mats available for Teslas after one of Jason’s relatives expressed frustration that his new car had no mats floor and the aftermarket options weren’t up to par.
“Most aftermarket mats are all rubber, bulky, ill-fitting, and have logos on them,” Jason said. “So we decided to design and manufacture a nice mat without logos that fits well and is waterproof to protect the car mat.”
Sebastien engineered the seamless design of TeslaShields custom molded floor mats with at least 25% more coverage than any other product on the market, blending into the ground with as few gaps as possible. While Sebastien handled design, manufacturing and logistics, Jason focused on marketing and day-to-day business.
Most of the products on the market had unreliable foreign customer service contacts who knew little about their products, prompting TeslaShields to offer unparalleled personal customer service. The two CEOs often answer questions themselves. They are available 24/7 by phone, email, text message and through various websites and blogs where they maintain an online presence.
“Good customer service is hard to come by these days, and we know we can’t rely on website and email responses alone,” Jason said. “Being available to our customers has been an important part of our sales.”
TeslaShields floor mats were an instant hit and sold out within weeks. Since then they have expanded to offer custom molded mats and a range of accessories for Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, both five and seven seater.
