How to Design Your Cruise Family Shirts – 7 Tips

Taking the family on a cruise needs to be documented, and sometimes the photos in a photo album just aren’t enough. Whether it’s for a special occasion or just a vacation, make the event memorable by designing family cruise shirts.

These personalized t-shirts will have your family fondly remembering their amazing time together every time they see the cruise shirt for years to come.

Create Cruise Family shirts in 7 easy steps

Creating a memorable cruise shirt that sums up the moment is easier than you think. Whether you are creative or not, or have inspiration, there are tools that can help you in your business. It’s easy to go online and search for inspiration.

Whether you create them yourself using an iron, sew them with a sewing machine, or model them and pay to have them made, creating a cruise shirt is seamless if you follow these simple steps.

1. Select the right shirt

Although it seems obvious, there may be some caveats to your selection. When choosing a family shirt, people automatically go for t-shirts or even custom t-shirts. For most places this is fine because the weather is hot and humid. However, some may forget to take their location into consideration when selecting a suitable shirt.

When choosing the right cruise shirt, consider the temperature of where you are going. If you are traveling in a very humid location, a normal cotton shirt may not be suitable if you engage in a variety of physical activities. You may want a custom family cruise shirt that has an absorbent to keep you cool.

If you’re traveling in a cooler climate, you’ll want a shirt that people will get a bit warmer. After all, what’s the point of designing family shirts if they have to be concealed! You will need to select shirts based on the climate.

Also, if you’re ordering or even when looking for shirts for your DIY project, make sure they fit the individual first. Not all shirts are true to size, and taking the time to create one only to not fit can be frustrating.

2. Find a model

Not everyone can have a creative vision in the blink of an eye. Sometimes we need a little inspiration. This is where the internet can provide a plethora of ideas for designing the perfect family shirt. The model will be the baseline from which you will work.

3. Find a catchy saying or words that sum up the moment

Are you commemorating a specific event like a birthday, a grandparent’s 70th birthday, or your child’s graduation?

There are many reasons why families go on family cruises, especially with notable organizations like Disney Cruise Line or Carnival Cruise Line. Even if the only reason is for a family vacation, find a catchy saying that marks the moment.

It doesn’t even have to be a catchy saying. Some shirts may simply say “The Smith’s Family Reunion” or “The Jones’ First Cruise”. These are good too. These shirts are designed to unite the whole family and are worn to be fun.

4. Add artwork

Again, this is where the internet comes in handy. There are many free images online that you can use to design your own shirts for your family cruise.

Make sure, however, that it is listed as “free” before downloading it and that it can be used for personal purposes. Not all images allow this and you don’t want to break copyright laws. Each image will have a list describing what it can and cannot be used for.

5. Create a mockup with your design details

This is where you add your design details to the template. Now everything starts to fall into place to create the final product!

6. Save your creation details

Depending on the route you take, there may be different stages for this. If you are creating the shirts yourself, you can make the design on a computer and upload it to the machine to incorporate the stitching.

You can also create the design on your computer as a mockup for a design company. When you’re done, download it to a USB drive or file to send them your details.

Many sites also allow you to enter your details and then walk you through the process on their site. However, you may be limited to the available templates, so they may not be as personalized as you want them to be.

7. Create the shirts

This can be done in several ways. Some people may want to incorporate stitching and an iron. Others may want to do the hand lettering for a more personal effect.

If you use a sewing machine, this is where the information is downloaded to your machine as a template. Make sure it is in the correct model for your machine for it to work. Then you can proceed to its manufacture.
