In an ongoing effort to optimize power, performance and area (PPA) for next-generation systems-on-a-chip (SoC), Synopsys, Inc. (Nasdaq: SNPS) announced today that TSMC has certified Synopsys digital and custom design platforms for TSMC’s 3nm technology. The rigorous validation certification, based on TSMC’s latest version of the Design Rules Manual (DRM) and Process Design Kits (PDK), is the result of a multi-year collaboration between the two companies. In addition to this certification, Synopsys’ digital and custom design platforms have also been certified for TSMC’s N4 process.

The digital design flow, anchored by the tightly integrated system Synopsys Fusion Design Platform™, offers new technologies to provide faster sync close, full flow correlation from summary to location and route to sync, and physical approval. The platform has been enhanced to provide improved synthesis and global placement engines that optimize library cell selection and placement results. To support TSMC’s ultra-low voltage design closure, the Synopsys optimization engine has been enhanced to use new footprint optimization algorithms. These new technologies, which are the result of the strategic partnership between the companies, will help boost the PPA for designs on TSMC’s N3 process.
The custom compiler™ design and layout solution, part of the Synopsys Custom Design Platform, offers improved productivity to designers using TSMC’s advanced process technologies. Many improvements to the custom compiler, validated by early 3nm users, including the Synopsys DesignWare® IP team, reduce efforts to meet the requirements of 3nm technology. The PrimeSim Synopsys™ HSPICE®, PrimeSim SPICE, PrimeSim Pro and PrimeSim XA simulators, as part of the PrimeSim Continuum solution, provide improved turnaround time for TSMC 3nm designs and provide approval coverage for circuit simulation and reliability requirements.
