When Pedini of Detroit, an Italian designer of modern and contemporary kitchens, bathrooms and furniture, opened in 2018, the company pursued two distinct growth paths.

On the commercial side, Pedini designs kitchens for new condominium and apartment complexes. “We have clients throughout metro Detroit, Michigan and northern Ohio,” says Stefano Mularoni, co-owner with Ravinder Chhatwal of Pedini of Detroit. “All of our work would be considered personalized. This way residents can be sure they have a unique design – plus it helps generate value when a unit (condo) is sold.

The company also creates custom living spaces for single-family homes. Hi Pedini, a range of Alexa-like technologies, powers devices and other furniture through a voice assistant. It’s complemented by what Pedini calls Cloud Computing, an advanced voice recognition application based on artificial intelligence from Microsoft, as well as sensors mounted inside cabinet doors and drawers.

The technology allows users to monitor and direct actions – such as measuring the air quality inside a home, receiving alerts in the event of a natural gas or water leak, and even developing a shopping list or suggest new recipes – via a smartphone app. Sensors, on the other hand, can open and close cabinets and drawers via a voice assistant, or brew freshly ground coffee each morning.

“Our design team in Italy will be working directly with clients (via Zoom), so it’s like you’re there in our design center in Fano (south of San Marino),” says Chhatwal. “It’s quite an experience when all the technology comes together. It’s like having an Italian design house at your fingertips.

A future product offering, Hi Pedini, in tandem with a lighting package, can be used to set a preferred ambience. Using voice commands, different colors and shades of light can be selected to provide moments of reflection, a sporting event or a family celebration. Safety devices alert parents if a child tries to access a “critical door” containing detergents or utensils.

The company also supplies many models and products for living spaces, bathrooms, bedrooms and walk-in closets, including Antares, Gemini, Virgo, Orion and Taurus products in the new Omnia collection. The offerings include a range of modern, self-contained storage containers and doors to separate or close spaces.

In addition to residential projects, Pedini serves the hospitality industry and works with interior designers, franchise owners, retailers, users of medical practices, businesses and restaurants. He also has personalized relationships with IPF Flooring and COCIF Doors.

“Our showroom is designed to be very immersive, so when you walk through our doors, it’s like stepping into another world,” Mularoni explains of the office at 422 W. Congress St., right at north of the TCF center. “We also have a lot of accessories for our different product lines so people can experience a seamless design. “
